Today I will be doing a quick review of the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card. This credit card has both a personal and business version. I will be discussing both versions in this guide.
- Personal- Earn 25,000 Starpoints when you make $3,000 in purchases in 3 months
- Business- Earn 25,000 Starpoints when you make $5,000 in purchases in 3 months
- No foreign transaction fees
- Points are very valuable
How to apply for the Starwood Preferred Guest
You can apply for the personal version here. You can apply for the business version here. There are also some rumors that you can only have up to four American Express issued cards. I’ve heard that this applies to people that have average to low credit scores. Know that you’ll be using your 2 of 4 limit if you get accepted for both cards even though your credit score isn’t that good.
Compared to other cards
There really isn’t any direct cards that can be compared. There’s not really many other cards that offers a bonus that is as valuable as the SPG card. Although I do have a list of some of the best hotel credit card sign-up bonuses if anyone wants to compare it to other cards.
A look at redemptions
Here are some of the redemption options that I found to be available upon a quick search. One hotel redemption showed a redemption value of close to 1 cent per point. The Sheraton New York Times Hotel Square Hotel shows a redemption value of a whopping 3.15 cent per point. As you can see Starpoints can be valuable.
Starpoints are considered very valuable. They are worth up to/more than 2.5 cents per point depending on where you redeem them. The current bonus on each card is valued at $625 each if each point where worth 2.5 cents. Be careful of how you use these points though. As they are very hard to earn apart from the sign-up bonuses!
